Nothingness

This is a place of moods. No one is exempt. Maybe it’s the wind or maybe it’s the spirits that haunt The Paradise. A mood made Uncle Nick take a vow of silence, another mood saw him keep it. A mood gets me out of bed or makes me stay there.
Everything and nothing happens here. You have to look real close because things get buried under the surface. Things that crawl in through a person’s back and gnaw away at their guts. And when there is nothing else just a hollow shell of a person those things move on to the next person and start gnawing all over again.
What happens when nothing happens? It is like a dull ache in the back of the neck or right between the eyes. But it creeps and lingers and then all of a sudden it strikes, wrapping you up tightly in its colourless tentacles. Its not particularly painful, but the knowledge that there is no escape is somehow far worse than any imaginable pain.
